yesyes!

This is just a random spur-of-the-moment practice shot! I was planning to do an elaborate food-related piece, just thought I'd test this. It does need a lot of work on the textures and environment though..

Cars, finally!

Audi A4. Cars are SO much fun to render! This is a WIP, still trying to finesse it.

Commercials, yo!

I love making things look good. I got into this perfume bottle pretty quickly once I started, luxury brands and all that jazz..
COCO CHANEL!

MORE!

This a giant archway I did for my Vray Final. I'd done a time lapse on this originally, with four times of day (dawn, noon, dusk and night). As nighttime looked most dynamic, I decided to work on it more.

Matte Painting!

First attempt at matte painting.. Trying to get the lighting effectively moody. T'was fun, I must admit!

@ Gnomon!

This is the first render to come out of my work at Gnomon that I wanted to show to people.

This was rendered in Maya Software (never thought I could get a result like that). Shading network was understandably complex, the caustics, though have been achieved in Mental Ray.

Ad-visualization of sorts.

I really really like this particular render. I did it with a classmate of mine, we were so pleased with it. The cherry on the cake though, was when our teacher came in and asked us whether it was the reference image or the render!

Rendered in Mental Ray, sky replacement and a tiny bit of post work in Photoshop.

Architectural walk-through time! Model's not mine, shading and lighting is. I consider this to be one of the better pieces in the body of my work.

Rendered in Vray, I must say it took FOREVER. No post work on it!

Another product-y type render, continuing with my musical instrument obsession.

Again, basic three point lighting setup, but in Vray. The texturing was a  lot of fun to do!

When I was done rendering this guitar image, I remember, it was my pride and joy. Basic three point lighting setup with global illumination. Models are not mine, again, shading and lighting was my contribution.

Done in Mental ray, no post work.

Photography is awesome.

I've been trying to experiment on my own for a while, I'm going to take a class in it soon, psyched about it!!

Pins might seem super frivolous! But I was waiting for something to render, and was bored out of my mind. Saw push pins on my desk, HEY - caustics!

I must say I wasn't expecting this result. (no post work/colour correction at all). Passes I got for this one were CRAZYY!

This one here was created for the VFX people at school, I was in charge of only the shading and lighting for this shot.

Done in Vray, had incredible issues with noise in the render. Looks pretty similar to the previous one.

I was extremely into games for a bit around a year back, thanks to the company I had. Was all fired up about creating a game environment.

This was done along with a friend of mine, in Mental ray. It rendered super fast!

This was an attempt at mood lighting an exterior scene - an old house that's falling apart in the middle of nowhere.

Rendered in Vray, sky was done in post.

After I decided to go into lighting, I wanted to try and do things that were relevant for product lighting, game environments and interior-exterior scenes as well. Getting my degree in Psychology and doing this at the same time wasn't easy, but I found myself getting pulled into it more as I did more.

This was one of the first product type renders that I tried to do  [textures are pretty disproportionate, I did realize : trying to fix all that now :)]. This was my first time working in Vray, passes came out pretty interesting.

Getting Started

Thought I should mark my progress as a CG artist. And what better way to do that than writing a blog.

I've been into 3d packages since about 2 years now. I've mainly been focused on Maya. I decided to go with lighting as my specialty since about a year, been working towards it ever since. As the first year of my lighting work in Maya is woeful, to say the least, here is my final project for the academic year of 2009-2010.

This was done in Mental Ray.
